How to convert HEIC to JPG

Converting HEIC photos with PicSmash only takes a few steps.

  1. Choose or drag your HEIC files into PicSmash.
  2. Select JPG as the output format and adjust image quality if needed.
  3. Convert your photos and download the resulting JPG files.

Everything happens locally in your browser. Your original HEIC photos stay on your device.

Why convert HEIC to JPG?

HEIC is commonly used by iPhones and iPads because it can store high-quality photos using less space than traditional JPEG images.

The downside is compatibility. Some websites, older Windows apps, image editors, and other devices still don't accept HEIC files.

Converting HEIC to JPG makes your photos easier to:

open on Windows and Android devices
upload to websites and online forms
send through email and messaging apps
edit with older software
print or share with devices that don't support HEIC

If you want to keep the original photo at the smallest practical file size, HEIC is usually worth keeping. If you need the image to work almost everywhere, JPG is the safer choice.

Keep the original HEIC if storage efficiency and Apple ecosystem compatibility matter. Convert to JPG when you need the image to work almost everywhere.

Private HEIC conversion — no uploads

Unlike converters that send your photos to a remote server, PicSmash performs HEIC-to-JPG conversion locally inside your browser.

Your photos don't need to be uploaded, stored, or processed remotely. They stay on your device while the conversion happens.

This makes local conversion especially useful for private photos, screenshots, work images, scanned documents, and other files you may not want to upload to a third-party server.

Convert multiple HEIC files at once

You don't need to convert HEIC photos one by one.

PicSmash supports batch conversion, so you can select multiple HEIC images and convert them to JPG together.

You can also choose an entire folder instead of selecting individual images, which makes it much easier to process larger photo collections.

What happens when you convert HEIC to JPG?

Metadata

EXIF, GPS, camera information, and other image metadata may not be preserved during conversion.

Live Photos

A Live Photo contains both a still image and a short video. When converting a HEIC image to JPG, only the still image is converted. The accompanying Live Photo video is not included.

Image quality

HEIC and JPG can both use lossy compression. Converting from HEIC to JPG may therefore introduce a small additional loss in image quality, especially at lower JPG quality settings.

For most normal photos, using a high JPG quality setting should keep the visible difference small.
